Temple Renovations Needed

  • The Lhakang is now greatly in need of repairs. Exterior projects include repairing water damage to the eaves (rafter tails, soffits, trim, and facia).
  • Exterior cracks need to be repaired and the stucco needs to be completely resurfaced.
  • Repairing the roof includes adding the flashing which will be done in combination with the stucco repairs.
  • In addition, the exterior wood needs a fresh coat of paint and sealant to protect it from the harsh weather in Crestone.
  • Everything in the temple interior needs repainting (walls, doors, and trim), plus all the raw wood needs restaining/resealing.
  • The existing boiler is 24-years-old. It is very noisy and inefficient. It negatively affects Rinpoche’s sleep cycle, as it is close to Rinpoche’s bedroom.
  • The pressure booster pump is in it’s final days. It has a loud clunky sound every time water is used or a toilet is flushed.

Straw Bale House Demolition

  • This historic structure, from Rinpoche’s first teachings on the land, is badly deteriorated and beyond repair. It must dismantled for fire, health and safety reasons.
  • It has become infested with deer mice, which carry Hanta virus. This requires that workers wear Hazmat protection to remove the items inside the building.
  • There are propane tanks, trash, debris, and old equipment that need to be disposed of or recycled of properly.
  • Also, the defunct shower stalls need to be removed.
  • A new protective cover is necessary for the underground water pump system.
  • Also, a new pressure tank (in the pit) is needed as it is the oldest part of the system and is well beyond it’s expected lifetime.

Other renovations

  • The prayer wheel structure is peeling and faded. It needs to be scraped, repaired, and repainted.
  • Also, the actual prayer wheels themselves need revitalization.
  • Our main entrance sign at the bottom of the road, is faded and needs to be repainted. The structure itself needs to repaired and resealed.
  • And, due to snow plowing, the flags at the entrance to the property need to be reinstalled.
